Kori is a 10’ x 40’ interactive installation designed and fabricated for the LA Design Festival 2019, located at ROW DTLA. Named after the Japanese word for ice, Kori is inspired by the ephemeral beauty and stillness of frozen landscapes.
The installation explores the unique properties of acrylic through a bottom-up approach, pushing the material’s potential to manipulate light, form, and perception. By playing with transparency and disrupting our usual sense of depth, Kori creates a space that is both playful and ethereal, echoing the shifting, crystalline nature of ice.
Visitors are invited to engage with Kori in their way. Its sinuous form offers an open-ended experience: some may walk through and trace the flowing shadows it casts on the ground, others may pause to listen to the quiet sounds of the night, or watch as headlights flicker through its layered surfaces, creating dazzling, ever-changing light effects.
